The end of the school year means a time of transition for some. Parents suddenly have households full of young energy, teenagers turn their attention to the job search, and teachers launch themselves into the final, frenetic demands of school and then sink deeply into the rejuvenation of summer break. However, for those of us starting a school, summer simply means continued momentum and exciting plans! With the current academic year wrapped up, we’re already preparing for the future–which includes thinking about next fall, the next ten years, and everything in between. Clark Fork Prep is here to stay, and today’s efforts lead to long term success. So, here’s a sample from the CFP summer to-do list: finalize after school programming, organize community nights, apply for two more grants, check on Yoke’s e-scrip program, host three house parties, plan an end-of-summer event with WEN, finish questions for Zootown Trivia Night, find a building. (The last one is a biggie!) Whew, even that partial lineup is long! But when we look back at what we accomplished over the last 12 months–and how this community has offered kindness, support, and enthusiasm–we’re confident about this next round of tasks. After all, we had a lot on our plates in 2023-24, but we just chipped away at the items, one by one. Assemble a fantastic board–check. Apply for grants–check. Host community nights–check (six so far!). Launch a website and social media–check (follow us on Instagram or Facebook). And–the most rewarding–meeting with many of Missoula’s creative and inspiring folks. Check! Thank you for helping us cross so many things off our list. Anne Lamott wisely suggests in Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life that the way to make progress on a big project is exactly that: bird by bird, one at a time. As we turn toward a new season, we’ll keep working hard for Missoula youth–both the teens of today and the teens of tomorrow.
